The NCPA, now in its 50th year, presents the Autumn 2019 Season of its resident ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra of India (SOI) featuring music by Classical & Romantic composers at the NCPA’s iconic Jamshed Bhabha Theatre this September.

This season’s opening brings to the music lovers of the city two double concertos, by Ernest Chausson and Felix Mendelssohn, performed by SOI Music Director and violin virtuoso Marat Bisengaliev with the artistic brilliance of Roberto Prosseda on the piano on September 11.

On September 17, Associate Music Director Zane Dalal will share the stage with tenor Simon O’Neill, hailed as “The Wagnerian tenor of his generation”, and soprano Amanda Atlas who is known for her dramatic flair and vocal power, in an all-Wagner gala that promises to make for a thrilling evening.

Alexander Lazarev will join the SOI and Irish pianist Barry Douglas to enthral the audiences with Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 on September 22. The programme will also include the suite from Stravinsky’s ballet Petrushka.

To conclude the season on September 27, we bring to the stage Chennai-based child prodigy pianist Lydian Nadhaswaram, who recently won the CBS television competition The World’s Best, performing Haydn’s Piano Concerto No. 11. The programme, conducted by Lazarev, will also include works by Khachaturian & Tchaikovsky.

There will also be three recitals performed by the soloists across the season, all of which are not to be missed!

For avid music fans, the season comes with its perks offering a Season Discount of 10 per cent on the purchase of tickets for three or more concerts, and a whopping 50 per cent discount for students for any concert on presentation of a valid student ID.
