Boys who Bake

Keegan started his home-based bakery under challenging circumstances, the lockdown hadn’t been kind but that wasn’t going to stop him. Taking baby steps he began ‘Keegan’s Konfections’ putting all his culinary experience and everything that he had learnt into action. For him, customised cakes with intricate decor, traditional sweets for Christmas & Easter are what he specialised in. But after becoming a certified pastry chef in 2019 he walked into a world of international desserts and various types of bread. So he thought now was his chance to let people have a taste of a variety of sweet and savoury baked goodies straight from his kitchen.

His earliest inspiration he remembers fondly was his grandmother who was always cooking and baking for him and his sister. He would watch her closely and try and help in whichever way he could, soon it became more like a hobby and stress buster rather than being a chore.

Every weekend you will find new items on Keegan’s menu that will keep you going back for more.

And it is this appreciation and happy customers that gives him the confidence to continue to diversify his menu and keep baking.

I love homemade breads so his menu that boasts of focaccia, brioche, bagels is already inviting.

He also has a variety of quiches and sliders as well but since they are only available on the weekend you will have to keep a lookout for his weekly menu.

And of course, he hasn’t given up on his first love, confectionary, where the name of his weekend pop up comes from. One bite into a chocolate doughnut and I already want to know what’s on next week’s list. The cinnamon rolls sit tall and cylindrical in shape as opposed to the flat buns we’re used to and are filled with flavour in every bite.

RBBC:
Here’s a crazy concoction for you to try out, RBBC, “Riki’s Brothers Baking Crazy”, a family run business that has been blessed with 3 generations of catering and baking experience. Recipes handed down over generations and an ingrained passion for baking, these brothers Riki and Karan seem to have been born with flour on their fingers.

The 2 of them have full-time alternate careers (before the pandemic); Riki has a successful patisserie in Thane and his younger brother Karan is in Sales. However, this uneventful lockdown accidentally brought them together professionally. While experimenting in the kitchen they both decided to jump on board together and start RBBC with an aim to create unforgettable moments together through food. They place great importance on client relationships and offer personalised services – “You think it, we bake it!”

Riki comes from over 30 years of professional experience where he’s worked at various 5-star hotels in Mumbai, taught various food and pastry courses at reputed colleges and also ran a successful bake shop in Dubai for 7 years. He is now part-owner of his own patisserie in Mumbai. Whereas Karan is just beginning his culinary journey and the 2 like-minded innovative brothers who have always shared a passion for good food have now started baking together.

An exceptional range of high-quality savouries, cakes and confectionery with attention to detail and a passion for perfection is what they hope will set them apart. Who doesn’t love a good profiterole or two, but when you have one with a delicious filling of chicken and cheese then you’re in for a savoury surprise. Their menu is wide and in a sense limitless, from savoury treats of sandwiches and quiche to sweeter indulgences of cheesecake, mousse and traditional thali cake, you can literally ask them to bake anything off the menu as well.
