Nānna House translates to Father’s House in Telugu. And as the name suggests the cafe serves quintessential Andhra cuisine showstoppers. It is a known fact that dishes such as dosas, vadas and idlis are ubiquitous across south India, however the ingredients, taste profile of the dishes and the accompanying condiments differ from region to region. And at Nānna House one can expect to find the perfect gateway to explore Andhra cuisine.

The menu at the newly launched eatery is centered around items that truly represent Andhra cuisine, and therefore is not replete with the typical, run of the mill items. One of the specialties of the region, and a star item on the menu is Pesarattu. Similar to a dosa, this dish stands apart owing to its ingredients. The pesarattu doesn’t comprise rice and urad dal, but is packed with protein given its green moong base; which is perfectly complemented by the spices and herbs added to the batter.

A Hyderabad specific version of the pesarattu, is the MLA Pesarattu. Legend has it that once a Member of the Legislative Assembly requested for a unique combination. The pesarattu with an upma filling. The perfect balance was achieved, the crispness of the moong pesarattu along with the comforting texture of upma. The item soon became a local favorite and is being served for the first time in Mumbai at Nānna House.

Another must have dish is the Millet Cone Idli. Made with ragi, this idli variation is presented in the shape of a popsicle. The batter is steamed while wrapped in a banana leaf, which adds a unique and subtle flavour.

Even the Sambar Rice is surprisingly different, and showcases the region’s spice composition. The rich and slightly spicy sambar served with fluffy Arva rice sets it apart from the otherwise watered down sambar rice.

All items on the menu are either made with ghee from Andhra Pradesh or locally procured unsalted white butter. Even the podi masala is specially sourced from the Guntur region of Andhra Pradesh, and is available in two variants the mildly spiced Karam Podi or the fiery Velluli Podi.
